France was guest of honour at CSIO Barcelona from 26-29 September for two reasons. First came victory for the "blue jackets" in the final of the Nations Cup, then the Normandy 2014 Organising Committee promoted the Games by holding a press conference for the international media and a field-based promotional operation to reach Catalonia’s horse-riding enthusiasts! |

France won the first final Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Jumping Final at the end of an epic thriller Barcelona against the best nations in the world! Brazil finishes 2nd, just one point behind France. Ireland completes the podium with 12 points. |

Patrice Delaveau, riding Carinjo Hdc, was awarded with the Longines Cup Ciutat de Barcelona, the most important single test of the CSIO Barcelona, with a budget of 120,000 euros in prize . 49 pairs took part in the competition, which took place at the same time as the traditional Gala Dinner at the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. |

From 5th to 8th September 2013, the Games’ Road Tour team attended the last stage of the HSBC FEI Classics circuit: the legendary “Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials”, a 4-star CCI event that is renowned for being the season’s most challenging eventing competition. On Tuesday 27th August, the mission heads from around 25 federations met with the Organising Committee in order to prepare for their trip to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy. Led by the department of sports, this meeting gave the Committee the opportunity to present the Federations with any issues that may concern them in view of the 2014 event. |

Test events for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy ended today with the Driving competition (CAI-A4 level).
Twelve drivers and sixty horses representing seven nations took part to these three days of the driving test event. The competition has crowned the American Chester Weber.
After the dressage (Friday) and Marathon (Saturday) in the heart of the City of Caen, the Driving test ended with the obstacle cone driving this morning on the career of the Tritons.

Friday, August 23, 2013 marked a symbolic date for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy since the count-down displayed "D-365" before the start of the event! To celebrate this important time, the Organizing Committee wanted to highlight the key moments which marked the preparation of the largest equestrian event in the world. On 10th and 11th August, the communes of Caen la Mer played host to the Sables Animés festival for the seventh time. The aim of the festival is to unite the communes and promote the Caen la Mer community. In total, over 1.5 kilometres of beach were employed over the weekend, boasting around thirty activities including beach rugby, beach volleyball, zumba, concerts, street theatre and bouncy castles, as well as a variety of scientific and creative workshops. |

Pauline Laïdi joined the Normandy 2014 Organising Committee in January 2013 as head of National Federation Services, bringing to the table her considerable experience working for the London Olympic Games and the European Swimming League. Her role is to liaise between the Organising Committee and the National Federations that are taking part in the event, in order to help the latter to manage all non-sporting matters: accommodation, transport, accreditations, and also their sports administration, the nerve centre of equestrian competitions. Her mission is to ensure that the Federations can focus their energies on one thing during the Games: the competition itself! A great adventure awaits… |

680 volunteers will be put to task this summer as they help with the organisation of three preparatory events in August: Endurance on 16th August in Sartilly, Eventing from 16th to 18th August at Le Pin National Stud and Caen, and Driving from 22nd to 25th August in Caen. This is a great practice run for when the Games begin in August 2014. |

On Friday 19 July 2013, the countdown for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy displayed the round number of D – 400 before the event starts. That equates to a little over 13 months. In the meantime though, it’s proving to be a busy summer for the event’s organising committee, commencing with the official opening of the cross country course at Le Pin National Stud last Friday. Topping the current jobs’ list is the first phase of putting tickets on sale, the recruiting of volunteers and the coordinating of accommodation on offer to future visitors. In collaboration with Normandy’s tourist boards (Regional Tourist Board, Departmental Tourist Boards, tutelary organisations, Tourist Offices), the Organising Committee has developed a platform to enable the general public to select and contact tourist accommodation providers in Normandy, in order to help fans organise their visit. Via the Games’ online shop and ticketing website, spectators can now visit the accommodation page to view the different accommodation options, according to their selection criteria. |

On behalf of the financial backers involved in the territorial project for the AlltechTM FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy, Laurent Beauvais, Chairman of the Lower Normandy Region and Chairman of the Normandy 2014 Organising Committee, presented the “L’Elan des Jeux” territorial project on Friday 5th July at the Abbaye-aux-Dames in Caen, drawing particular attention to the launch of the “15 months” phase of the project. |

Thursday, 13 June marked the start of trials on the future riding surfaces. At the request of the Normandie 2014 Organising Committee, along with the service providers, Normandie Drainage and Eiffage, a carriage from Le Pin National Stud and another driven by the French team member, Fabrice Martin were welcomed to the Prairie Racecourse. It was the perfect opportunity for them to judge the quality of the riding surfaces that will be installed for the test events from 23 to 25 August 2013. |

On Thursday 6 June, just before the women’s semi-finals, the Organising Committee organized an informal breakfast meeting for members of the press at the Roland-Garros stadium. It was the occasion for the OC to announce the start of ticket sales, to unveil the Games’ advertising campaign and to present Norman, the official mascot, to those who did not know him yet ! |

Hélène Tottoli joined the Normandie 2014 Organising Committee as layout manager in May 2008. Her role? Manage building/upgrade work at the venues, construction of equestrian footing/flooring, layout plans, temporary facilities, decoration, on-site cleaning services etc. It’s up to her to make sure that the 1,000 competitors, the 1,000 horses and the 500,000 spectators expected during the Games’ fortnight will all enjoy the best possible conditions. It was a back-to-back win for the USA following last year’s victory of Rich Fellers and Flexible who ended a 25-year drought for his country in 2012. Madden is only the fifth woman ever to hold the coveted trophy in her hands. |

Before the start of the Deauville CPEDI 3* Para Dressage competition on Friday 22 March, the Para Dressage national officials from eight federations had the opportunity to make the most of their trip to Normandy. Along with members of the Normandie 2014 Organising Committee, they were taken on an exclusive visit of their future competition venue. |

On Friday 1 March, the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy Organising Committee brought together nearly 200 members of the Norman equine sector at the Lower Normandy Crédit Agricole Bank of Caen. The Committee was able to run through its plans for getting everyone to back the event just 18 months before the actual start of the Games. |

Franck Tchavouchian joined the Normandie 2014 Organising Committee in June 2012 as event security/health and safety manager. His job? To manage all security and safety related issues for the horses, the competitors and the 500,000 expected spectators during the World Equestrian Games fortnight. With twenty-five years of experience in sports event management, this will be Franck “the Sheriff of the Games” first equestrian event. Laurent Cellier, sports director on the Normandie 2014 Organising Committee, brought together the discipline managers and members of the FFE’s National Technical Directorate at the OC’s head quarters on 29 and 30 January 2013. This first sports seminar of the year was the occasion for all the French and International equestrian senior executives to assess what had already been done and to identify the major tasks that still lie ahead. |

In 2011, the Organising Committee laid down the foundations of its organisation: definition of its organisation chart, implementation of management tools and techniques… For the last three months, and with the help of an external consultant, it has been working on the operational aspects that will be implemented a few months before the start of the event. The Organising Committee took a major step forward at the beginning of April by appointing the team in charge of the eight official disciplines. Getting all these experts together and making them an integral part of the Organising Committee was perhaps the most significant part of this development. In short, being able to mould eight individuals into a team! |
