Previous editionsThe FEI World Equestrian Games™ began with great hopes and have over the years continued to provide equestrianism with a trademark international platform from which to show the sport at its best. Since 1990, the Games have been held every four years, between each Olympic Games. They finally united each FEI discipline’s separate World Championship in one event, an idea that had been much discussed and aspired to but which did not come to fruition until the first FEI World Equestrian Games™ in Stockholm in 1990. As in the Olympic Games, the riders are rigorously selected from the top set of athletes from each nation and today the FEI World Equestrian Games™ encompasses every discipline of the sport. Over many successful and innovative years, the competition has found its feet and grown into a prestigious international event. Initially it was held in European venues – Stockholm (SWE), The Hague (NED), Rome (ITA), Jerez de la Frontera (ESP) and Aachen (GER) – but the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2010 were held outside of Europe for the first time, in the middle of horse country, Lexington, Kentucky (USA).
